Our History & Mission

Our History From A to Z

Originally chartered in 1969 as a credit union to serve the Jefferson County Police and then the employees of Jefferson County Government, we became Jefferson County Federal Credit Union, serving the employees of the Louisville - Jefferson County Metro Government as well as the employees of over three hundred companies and associations located primarily throughout the Greater Louisville Area.

The Credit Union has stood by our members, working with them through every stage in life as their trusted, financial partner. We have helped families from opening a child’s first savings account, to saving for college, buying cars and homes, and planning for retirement. The Credit Union was founded on the principles of helping others establish and reach their goals, and we still believe in and operate under the same values today.

We have always provided our members with superior service and products aimed at helping build their financial success, while operating in a financially sound, ethical manner. Even with being a strong financial institution with decades of experience, in 2019 we realized we needed to take a look at a variety of factors surrounding the products and services we offer, our technological capabilities, and our overall awareness and perception among those who do not belong to the Credit Union.

From these evaluations, we realized the Credit Union, our members and the communities we serve could greatly benefit from a restructure of our identity, to include a name change. And though we knew a name change was necessary, we also knew we didn’t want to change the foundation from which we became the credit union we are today. We wanted to continue to be able to promise our members that we will provide the same great products and personalized service they’ve come to expect and depend on – helping them advance through every stage in life and achieving their goals.

From these measures the answer became clear and on July 15, 2020, we became known as Advanz Credit Union.

Along with our name Advanz, we also have a member promise that We’ve got you covered A to Z – meaning we’re here to help our members and the communities we serve through all stages in life, helping to Advanz their lives and accomplish their goals.

Membership with Advanz Credit Union is open to persons who live, work, worship, or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located in Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Oldham, Henry or Trimble Counties in Kentucky or Clark or Floyd Counties in Indiana. Additionally, spouses of persons who died while within the field of membership of the Credit Union; volunteers in the community; members of the immediate family or household; and organizations of such persons are also eligible. And even though our name doesn't always represent the word "Federal" in it, our members' deposits are still Federally Insured by the NCUA up to $250,000.
